Reassurance Policing represents the latest in a succession of attempts to configure the delivery of policing services in a way that responds directly to what are seen as the most pressing political and social problems of the day. In this article the emergence of Reassurance Policing is thus located in a context where increasing concern is gravitating around the corrosive effects of a pervasive sense of insecurity upon the production of neighbourhood order. The discussion considers in detail aspects of the National Reassurance Policing Programme (NRPP) and how the results it achieved can be explained through its application of aspects of the Signal Crimes Perspective.
